New Post Graduate Programme in Cardiac Arrhythmia Management

Dear colleagues,

We are very delighted to announce an innovative programme, aiming to train the future leaders in arrhythmia management and research: Diploma of Advanced Studies in Cardiac Arrhythmia Management (DAS-CAM). The programme is a joint project of the European Heart Academy of the ESC, the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and the Maastricht University Medical Centre.

This 2-years executive style programme is designed to qualify clinicians and clinical scientists for a leading position in arrhythmia management and research. Participants will interact with world leaders on cardiac arrhythmology, regulatory and societal dimensions of arrhythmia management, as well as cardiovascular biostatistics, health economics and leadership.

Successful degree holders will be empowered to develop new standards for arrhythmia care and research for the next decade and beyond.

You can find more information about the course on EuropeanHeartAcademy.org and DASCAM.org.

The first course will start in January 2017. The applications are now open.

Do not hesitate to share this exceptional opportunity with your peers.

We look forward to receiving your application for this innovative postgraduate programme.

With our best regards,

Prof. Panos E. Vardas, FESC
Managing Chair of the European Heart Agency
Immediate Past ESC President

Prof. Gerhard Hindricks, FESC
President of the European Heart Rhythm Association

Prof. Harry Crijns, FESC
Chair of Cardiology at Maastricht University Medical Centre

Dear National Cardiac Society President,

Dear National Cardiac Society Secretary,

Dear ESC Guidelines Coordinator,

We are now ready to set up the 2017 ESC Guidelines review teams.

In order to do so and as over the past 3 years, we are pleased to involve ALL National Cardiac Societies in the reviewing of ALL 2017 ESC Guidelines again this year.

The CPG is therefore calling upon ALL National Cardiac Societies to nominate ONE reviewer, for EACH of the below-mentioned 2017 ESC Guidelines. These nominees will need to have recognized expertise in the specific topic they will be reviewing.

  1. ESC Guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of Peripheral Artery Diseases in collaboration with ESVS
  2. ESC / EACTS Guidelines on the management of Valvular Heart Disease
  3. ESC Guidelines for the management of Acute Myocardial Infarction in patients presenting with ST-segment elevation
  4. ESC Focused Update on Dual Anti-Platelet Therapy in collaboration with the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS)

In order to keep the manageability and a good quality of review (see attached slides) the CPG is asking the National Cardiac Societies' reviewers to focus specifically on reviewing Grade I and III recommendations which are “the do and do not do recommendations”.

The National Cardiac Societies and their respective reviewers having been involved in the review process, as well as the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines, will be listed in the document in an Appendix in order to acknowledge their time and effort.

Please send us the name and full contact details of your selected reviewer for each of the above-mentioned Guidelines: ONE name per Guidelines, by Monday 11 July 2016.

Nota bene: Involvement in ESC Clinical Practice Guidelines activities is subject to submission of a yearly declaration of interest which will be reviewed by an ESC assessing committee. Per the ESC policy any of the following activities will disqualify an individual from serving on a Guidelines committee: Part-time employment or salary from a related company, significant stock ownership, holding of a patent which generates significant revenues, receipt of significant royalties for intellectual property related to the topic of the guidelines.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in the official peer reviews of the ESC Guidelines and look forward to hearing back from you.

With our best personal regards,

Professor Jose Luis Zamorano

Chairperson of the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines 2014-2016

Professor Stephan Windecker

Chairperson of the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines 2016-2018

Poštovani članovi UKuBiH,

u nastavku možete pronaći obavijest od ESC-a. Ukoliko ste zainteresovani za ovaj program, molim vas da se prijavite dr. Tahani Ramović.

Dear Prof Kusljugic, FESC

I begin by highlighting that there are two opportunities to find out about Horizon 2020 funding this year; a special session at ESC Congress on 29 August and a dedicated info day on 8 July in Brussels, organised by the EU.

Horizon 2020 funding, when successfully procured, can make for very exciting progress. Two of the EU funded projects that the ESC is currently involved with include; CATCH ME, which aims to improve care of patients with Atrial Fibrillation and BETA 3 - LVH which aims to prevent patients having a structural heart remodelling and therefore at risk, to develop a heart failure.

Be sure to attend the session at ESC Congress to get practical insights into applying for funding and implementing EU funded projects.

The 'My ESC Story' campaign, which aims to share how belonging to the ESC makes us part of a very special and unique community, continues apace! As a member of the ESC Community, we hope you will share your ESC Story online!

ESC Congress 2016 is fast approaching and I heartily encourage you to start preparing your attendance in order to get the most out of this unique moment!

Finally, please be reminded of these important upcoming deadlines:

  • Submit your list of young cardiologists to receive FREE ESC Congress registration by 20 May
  • Remind your members to register by 31 May 2016 for early fee registration

Best wishes,

Prof. Dan Atar, FESC
ESC Vice President for National Affairs

Summer school

Dear Presidents/Secretaries of National Societies of Hypertension,
I am pleased to inform you that the European Society of Hypertension organizes this year's Summer School in Sirmione, Italy, on September 3-9 , 201 6 .
The financial rules will be the same as last year:
1) The attendees' accommodation and meals will be covered by the ESH.
2) The attendees' travel costs should be covered by the national societies of hypertension.
3) The ESH will pay the accommodation and travel costs of the faculty.
There will still be some travel grants provided by the ESH to countries facing economic hardship.

We would appreciate two candidates per country at most , indicating who of the two will be preferred if we are unable to accept both of them.
Please note the ESH Summer School is only a once-in-a-lifetime event, which means each participant can attend the course only once in his/her life. Although there is no specific age limit, younger candidates strongly devoted to hypertension should be preferred.
Each national society of hypertension will be informed about the selection of candidates in June 201 6 .
The program is under development; however, the faculty will consist of excellent Italian and international speakers.

Similar to last year, the fellows will be invited to be actively involved in the program by having the option of presenting their scientific work either orally or as a poster. The selection will be made based on the quality of the submitted abstracts.
Please keep in mind that the ESH Summer School is generously supported by the ESH; the costs per participant paid by the ESH are on average 1,500 EUR. Therefore, we would greatly appreciate your careful selection of candidates with preference given to those with a greater chance to stay within the field of hypertension.

I would like to ask you to submit your candidate list including their CVs (in English) by May 15, 201 6 to the following address (preferably by e-mail) to:
